Hi,everyone! The wonderful Elm and me have posted on eachothers blog and this is Elm’s post. I’m so happy that she has posted on this blog and thankyou very much!
Hi guys! It’s Elm, from Just Call me Elm or Something, and I’m posting on this wonderful girl’s blog for Halloween – we’re doing a collaboration, and you can read her amazing post on my blog here. Thanks for having me, by the way!
So. Halloween. It’s bigger in America – but still, here, you get kids knocking on your door, from about 6 until 10.
For the last 3 years, I’ve done nothing: I’ve just stayed at home, because I’m antisocial and I HAVE NO FRIENDS (that’s a lie I think).
What usually happens is that we buy sweets, put them in a massive bucket, and I charge to the door with said bucket when the kids come knocking (that sounded really creepy…) Except, because I’m a greedy so-and-so, some of the sweets accidentally fall into my mouth.
I swear, it’s always an accident. It just happens, you know?
I’ve had some awkward experiences when it comes to Halloween, and I’ll talk about two of them.
Right, so I’m blind, and that means I have no idea how tall all of the children are. So, I just have to hold out the sweets really awkwardly, trying my best not to look like I’m about to start screaming. And, if they already have their hands held out, I have zero idea. God, those poor children! It’s even worse when the parents try to explain to the kids, or when you have a REALLY young child who’s like 1 foot tall (which was probably how tall I was when I was their age).
I think it was 2 years ago that a girl from my old primary school – who’s existence I forgot because we hardly ever spoke – knocked on my door.
“ELM! It’s Scout!”
“Oh, erm, hiii!” I cried after a pause, suddenly remembering who she was. “How are you?”
“Yeah, I’m good!”
(About 2 minutes of awkward and stilted conversation). Nah, that wasn’t the proudest moment of my life. I’ve had about three incidents of that.
The biggest shock to come in a while, for me, is that this year I’m going to an actual Halloween party. I genuinely have no idea what I’m going to be dressed up as – ugh, I should get my sister to help me. Even though we’re 15, we’re going trick-or-treating (yup, we’re cool). I HOPE it won’t go too badly! In past years, I’ve dressed up as a witch and a ghost, because I’m SO CREATIVE. Costumes aren’t my forte.
What are you guys doing for Halloween?
Thank you SO much, Hideaway Girl, for having me on your blog! You’re really awesome, and it’s an honour.
