Hi,everyone! I have just finished The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy which I really enjoyed so I decided to tell you about it 🙂
I’m not very good at describing what the base of the book without giving spoilers so I decided to copy the blurb.
After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one. Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave. On a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, until Cassie meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan may be her only hope for rescuing her brother and even saving herself. Now she must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up. Cassie Sullivan gets up.
I was a tiny bit nervous of starting this book as I get a bit bored of science fiction books but it looked so good, that I just had to buy it!
Anyway, I really enjoyed the start of the book, it had drama and things were happening. But around the middle bit of the book, nothing really happened and it just seemed a bit slow. Towards the end, it seemed a little rushed. Although the bad timings, I really liked the story line.
I heard people say the romance in this book is awful but I actually really liked the romance. I didn’t think it was that cheesy but thinking about it now, it would have been very unrealistic but that’s what some books are; unrealistic. Cassie and her sarcasm did make me laugh sometimes and I felt very connected to her. Her determination did shine through this book and I did find myself nervous for her at some points of the book.
I didn’t really like Ben and I found him a bit too serious. He came across a bit full of himself but towards the end of the book, I did warm up to him slightly. I liked most of the charcters and I did feel like I was in the alien invasion which I’m very happy that I’m not!
Overall, I did really enjoy this book and I think I will be getting the next book of the series. I think I’ll give this 4 out of 5 stars 🙂
