Hi,everyone! School was actually alright today. I’ve already been given loads of homework even though I’ve only had a free lessons. My english one is to draw a leaf and write a book review or something;I’m not really sure but I realised that I haven’t really spoken about the books that I read this summer so I thought today, I could do a small book review of one of them.
NO SPOILERS WHATSOEVER- I wouldn’t be so mean 🙂
Billy and Me by Giovanna Fletcher.
I don’t normally read romance teen fiction because they are, normally, very fake and highly unlikely (also when I was single, I didn’t want to feel miserably lonely so I avoided these books, lol).
The reasons why I picked it up.
1. It was in Zoella’s book club and it did actually sound quite different to what other teen romance books I’ve read
2. The author is Giovanna Fletcher, the wife to Tom Fletcher (in Mcfly) so I think she would have had a similar connection to the character, Sophie.
So as per usual, I don’t know how I’m going to describe the book in a paragraph so I copied the back of the book for you here:
Sophie May is content with her life in her small English village, working in the local coffee shop and living with her mom. But when famous actor Billy comes to town to play Mr. Darcy in a new film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, Sophie’s quiet life is quickly turned on its head. Billy is adored by women around the world, but he only wants Sophie on his arm. But being with Billy comes at a price, and Sophie is thrown in the spotlight after years of shying away from attention. Can she handle the constant scrutiny that comes with being with Billy?
I really fell in love with the cafe that she worked in. It kinda reminded me of the cafe in ‘Me Before You’ (by the way:it’s a very good film so watch it). The characters and the way that Fletcher described the village, it really made me picture the cute tiny village and it was just a lovely book to read in the summer because it kinda captured the happiness but simplicity of living in a small village. I just loved the setting. I also work in a cafe so I kinda hoped that I would fall in love with another Billy.
Anyway, I also loved Sophie’s personality and how eager she is to be nice to people but sometimes, I did get annoyed with her through the book because I thought she was a little too soft and stupid. But overall, she was alright.
Billy sounded a bit too perfect for me. I dunno, I think it’s because how he just never made mistakes. And well I thought he was a bit of a douche at some moments.
The ending was really well-polished and made a realistic turn but there’s one thing that annoyed me but I’m not going to say because of spoilers..
Overall, the book is perfect for someone who loves romance, homely things and dreams of being with Robert Pattison basically *wink wink wink,Elle*.
That’s the book review done of Billy and Me! I’m going to try and do a book review per week because I read a lot of books this summer, most of them are very good reads so I would love to share them 🙂
Feel free to follow me on Goodreads so we can book worm over books together and please do recommend books in the comments below that you think I or others would like 🙂
